5 Keys to Get Started with Domain Names


Your domain name is your cyber-address. If your prospective customers have no idea about it, then most likely you will never be found, and nobody gets to purchase your products and services.

Choosing a domain name can be very hard, though, as you can hardly ever change it, especially if you already have solid traffic. To make sure that you won't have to change your mind later on, here are 5 keys to get started with domain names:

1. Make your business name your domain name. What better way to promote your business than having it as your domain name. You can also focus on the nature of your products and select them as your domain name.

2. Add some dashes. Dashes will basically allow you to include keywords in your domain name. This way, even if your target customers are not familiar with your business name, you can still be searched and clicked by appearing in search engine results pages.

3. Make use of the best keywords. Always get the best one, the most relevant to your chosen niche. If you aren't sure what it is, you can simply use keyword suggestion tools like Yahoo! Overture and even Google Adwords. If this doesn't work, you can ask help from keyword experts.

4. Purchase domain names sharing the same spelling as yours. You can't certainly afford to drive your prospective customers to other similarly spelled domain names. Thus, to ensure that this doesn't happen, spend a portion of your budget to purchasing these domain names. You can simply park them, or if you want, you can create mini-websites and use them as their domain names.

5. Short is better. Avoid complicated and long domain names. They don't get remembered easily, and Internet users are prone to misspelling them. In the end, you won't still be able to achieve the kind of traffic for your website.
