Can You Really Get a Free Website Design?

'Free website design' sounds very enticing, doesn't? Here, it seems, is the answer to getting that work done at no cost. But be careful, some of these offers are not quite what they seem. And there are plenty out there - 102,000 websites offer this service!

It is certainly a good idea to get a unique web design for your business as that helps make your business a unique brand, which is very important.

The first types of free website you should ignore are those offered by internet marketers, especially those offering affiliate marketing programs. What you will get is a copy of a site used by many other affiliates for this marketer, and the only difference will be your name and the domain. You will be obliged to buy the domain name through the web host at a very high price. Tip: Buy your domain at www.namecheap.com, as you will get good value.

If the offer seems too good to be true.....

There are other offers out there as well that are too good to be true. In many cases, the firm will 'design' your website, but they will use standard templates. They may create an image for you, but are more likely to use a standard image unless you supply one yourself.

If you are offered a 'website design' that comes looking like a web page except that it has a lot of Latin or other gobbledygook where you would put the text, then you are not really getting 'web design'. Instead, you are getting a website template.

You can pick these up for free on the internet by just searching for 'website templates'. But even here you need to be careful, as many firms advertise under the keyword 'free website design' when they do not actually offer free website design.

How can this be? Well, advertisers are allowed to use wild card keywords, which means that whatever you put in as a search phrase comes up in their title.

Don't go for free hosting

Another type of free website design is offered by the free web hosts. Free web hosting is not worth having because:

You get a long url which probably ends /member/~yourname or something, which is not considered a proper website by the search engines, or by surfers.

Their uptime is not good

The designs are very limited

If they don't like anything about your site, or anything you do with it, they will shut you down instantly.

So are there are any really free website designs? Yes, there are, but these are usually offered as part of a deal with web hosting - proper web hosting. This is not such a bad deal because you need web hosting anyway, and it can save you a lot of trouble. If you are looking for free web design these are things to look for:

1.You should be offered any design you like, including one like samples you find at the web page template sites

2.The text should all be put into the design by the designer, with the correct title tags and description tags

3.The hosting should not limit you in domain name

4.There should be a reasonable amount disc space and bandwidth allowance, with the option of upgrading either free or at a very low rate

5.Monthly fees that reflect the number of pages you have
