Stop Snoring!

Snoring may seem as a minor problem to most but it causes great strain to those who face it. It can be dangerous to those who encounter it both from the health point of view and relationships point of view. In the period of sleep, breathing and heart rates slow down comparatively and our muscles relax. In the throat this results the soft palate, a small flap of skin, to turn into tissue that is limp and flaccid. It is this soft palate that rings in the airflow during the throat when you respire, causing the sound we know as snoring.

Snoring should not be taken lightly. Heavy snorers are more prone to be hypertensive and have problems of angina than non snorers. The most complex phase of snoring is obtrusive sleep apnea, which causes cardiac, pulmonary and behavioral problems. Heavy snorers should have a careful examination of the mouth, nose, throat and larynx by an ENT surgeon. Every child with constant snoring should be scanned thoroughly.

There are various ways through which you can stop snoring. The best way to get rid of snoring is to be active throughout the day and this can be done easily by a good workout or an exercise. Make sure to exercise daily. Avoiding excessive alcohol, tobacco and smoking can also help you to stop snoring. Smoking is one of numerous aspects that push the body to make excess mucus, which can lead to restriction of the airways.

Persistent respiratory allergies might cause snoring by forcing sufferers to respire through their mouths while they sleep. Taking a decongestant or antihistamine previous to bedtime may aid to stop snoring. If your nose is blocked, try using the nasal spray or a humidifier to prevent snoring.

Milk and cheese, especially yellow cheeses are another cause of snoring. These products cause the production of mucus. Avoiding excessive dairy products can also help you to stop your snoring. Excessive eating leads to swelling of the tissue in the neck which, when lying down, can squeeze and restrict the airway raising the probability of snoring. So be sure that you are not overweight.

Also, your sleeping position can help you to stop snoring. You should try to sleep sideways instead of lying down on your back. Lying on your back allows the mouth or throat tissue and tongue to fall down into the throat and block the airway. You should sleep with your bed tilted so that your head is raised a bit upwards. Sleeping with your head raised may take some of the pressure off the airway, making breathing easier and reducing snoring. Moreover avoiding the use of thick pillow can stop your snoring. Make sure that your bedroom has plenty of fresh air for you to breathe properly.
